We believe that every young person deserves the chance to be educated, but sometimes it takes a village and maybe even a mustard seed or two of faith. Our 2 Mustard Seeds program enables twice as many Kenyan teens to attend school by raising funds during our annual 2 Mustard Seeds resale each fall. Then, when one of our community church partners sponsors a student, Expansion matches it with 2 Mustard Seeds funds. This program gives more young adults the help they need to break free from poverty due to lack of education.
Reverend John Mburu has faithfully pastored the PEFA Church in Magina since 1990 after he felt God’s call to move there from Magumu. A church that was started with a mustard seed of faith and just a few members meeting in a small house has now grown to 2,500! They currently have eight students in the 2 Mustard Seeds program.
“I have seen the lives of our students transformed in a great way through this program," said Rev. John Mburu.
"I remember a parent praying that his daughter, Bernice, would NOT pass her class eight's final exam because he could not manage to pay her secondary school fees. But because of this program, Bernice was able to go to school and complete her education. Today the girl is an accountant!”
It is an honor to come alongside these churches that desire to empower their youth to follow their dreams. Attending high school gives young people time to mature, attend university, or find better employment. Bernice is one of many whose lives have been transformed through this program. 2 Mustard Seeds provided the opportunity, but Bernice did the hard work it took to graduate. You help us raise funds for the 2 Mustard Seeds program when you volunteer, donate, or shop at our massive three-day women's resale event.
